Just stumbled over here from Fifdom and clicked on this article first. As a dad of a 2.5-year old and a 4-month old, self-employed, and originally from the Jersey Shore, I can relate quite a bit to your experience. The coming home scene, complete with the admiration and fear of the wife after a full day of two kids, is really well-captured. I appreciate you putting this into words and just subscribed for more!
Thanks for subscribing John (even though this was NOT my intention with the Fif email 😂) Really appreciate you reading. Where on the Jersey Shore are you from?
Well Alex, you did it again—wrote another piece that made me laugh and, I’ll admit it, almost cry.
It’s been many years since my two daughters were the age yours are now but I can recall with all the vividness old age allows, each of those moments: the heartache/heartbreak/heart swelling with so much pride and joy I thought it might burst. The same is true of our grandchildren. So, it never really ends… until it does.
Thanks for your words. And while I don’t respond to each of your posts, I do after all, have my own writing to share with the world, rest assured, I read most of them and truly appreciate the hilarity and moments of solemn insight you bring to my day.
I gather from your posts that you are struggling to both have your writing noticed by the world at large and also get published. It occurs to me that many of your articles, sans the F-bombs, would fit well into the Chicken Soup for the Soul series. While, not many of us aspiring writers long to hang a plaque that advertises to the world, “Hey, look at me I’m published in a book whose greatest claim to fame is granny setting her knitting aside, resting a box of Kleenex on her lap to walk down memory lane for a few minutes each day.” Nevertheless, I think they’d love your work.
Much appreciated man! Kids are the best (and drive you insane haha). And yes, definitely struggling but not going to stop! haha one day it'll come together as far as being published. I'm not sure if I could ever go sans F-bombs so maybe Chicken Soup for the Twisted Soul haha!! but thank you very much, means a lot!

😂 You should do that. Publish a book called twisted soup… brilliant idea!
Have a great weekend. Keep pushing your work!

And you are the best father ❤️
This is my “thank you” to you and dad 😂
