Congrats and thanks for your humor and humility — from all the unpublishable white-sounding assholes out here.

I have been reading the free sample on Amazon and really liking what I am seeing enough to consider buying the book. But could you knock a quarter point off the vig just to help a pal out?

I’m wondering though. Did any of the agents say something like “I would consider publishing this, but could you rewrite it from the perspective of a small-bodied Vietnamese but Latino-sounding queer man, and can we rename it El Hefe of Gladness?”

I just saw this. It's late and I can't read it tonight. But I will get to it tomorrow first thing. I'm in a similar position to what Alex was in a year or so ago. I've been sending out my work for over a year, close to two, and because ... Well... how can I say this in a nice way. Because commercial publishing is currently fucked up, I can't get no satisfaction, as the strolling bones would sing.

An author friend of mine put it perfectly when he said each writer is running their own race. Big ups to you for taking control of your creative endeavors and putting your work into the world.

I'm glad Christopher proved to be a beacon of sanity in this deeply pathetic industry. Stay on his radar with your next project. And don't discount the fact that you sold hundreds of copies by your own hand. The median sales figure for Big Five books is only a few thousand, which means your so-called "platform" here on Substack has served you well. If/when you get back in the query trenches make sure to tell bloodsucking literary agents you've got a built-in fanbase.

Onto the next, my friend!
