I didn’t have that many steady role models growing up. being an Army Brat. (BTW, none of what Charli sings about would have ever been okay for someone on Post. Quit acting like a Sailor….)

So, various other soldiers, the Boy Scouts, youth sports, and the Church.

I started with the suburban lit in high school. And, yes, it started with Rand.

I never thought to put those two together. There’s a piece there - BRAT by an Army Brat. Run with it! Haha

Voice of sanity in the wilderness! Thank you, thank you. So much more I could add (okay, rant) but you've done it perfectly. Yes I'm going to vote, yes I have my very own (free thinker here) thoughts and values, and I don't get them from social media or pop culture. I am years in making (let's not say exactly how many of those!) and forced myself over the years to examine and question everything. I'm at peace with myself and my process, and always learning more. The only thing I find myself saying to anyone now is that it is up to us, We The People. Do not look to politicians, although we are stuck with this system. Use your head and do your best.

Great article and message. The old Charles Barkley “I am not a role model” commercial came to mind. Some time between becoming a quasi-adult and realizing my parents were as flawed as I was, I started focusing on qualities of people vs putting them on a role model pedestal. I’d much rather strive for a work ethic like Kobe (RIP) vs viewing him as a role model.
